How to find your correct ring size

The correct ring size is crucial for ensuring your ring fits comfortably and securely on your finger. You can determine your size in two simple ways.

Option 1: Measuring a well-fitting ring

Take a ring that already fits well on the desired finger.

Using a millimeter ruler, measure the inner diameter of the ring as accurately as possible. Measure exclusively from inner edge to inner edge – the thickness of the ring material is not included.

Then, compare the measured inner diameter with our ring size chart.

Example: An inner diameter of approximately 17.2 mm corresponds to a German ring size of about 54.

Option 2: Measuring your finger circumference

Alternatively, you can measure the circumference of the finger on which you intend to wear the ring.

Wrap a flexible measuring tape or a narrow strip of paper around the appropriate part of your finger. The measuring tape or paper strip should be snug, but not cut into the skin.

Mark or measure the full circumference and determine the length in millimeters.

In Germany, the ring size generally corresponds roughly to the inner circumference of the ring in millimeters.

Example: A finger circumference of about 54 mm corresponds roughly to the German ring size 54.

Important tips for the most accurate measurement

• Always measure exactly the finger and the hand on which you intend to wear the ring. The fingers on the right and left hand can be different sizes.
• If possible, measure several times. Even small measurement errors can make a difference in ring size.
• Finger circumference can change throughout the day.
• Warmth can cause fingers to swell temporarily, while they may appear slimmer in the cold.
• Therefore, measure at normal room temperature if possible, and not immediately after exposure to extreme heat, severe cold, or intense physical activity.
• Also consider the knuckle. The ring should be able to pass over the knuckle with slight resistance and then sit securely on the finger.
• Wider ring bands can feel tighter than very thin rings of the same nominal size.
• Do not automatically use a ring size that was determined a long time ago. Finger circumference can change over time.

How should a ring fit properly?

A well-fitting ring should sit comfortably on the finger without pinching or cutting into the skin.

It should be able to pass over the knuckle with slight resistance and then not slip off the finger unintentionally.

A ring that slides over the knuckle very easily, spins significantly, or threatens to slide off the finger during normal hand movement may be too large.

Conversely, a ring that consistently pinches uncomfortably, cuts into the skin noticeably, or can only be moved over the knuckle with great difficulty may be too small.

Conversion formulas for ring circumference and inner diameter

If you know the inner diameter, you can calculate the approximate inner circumference as follows:

Ring circumference = Inner diameter × 3.14

If you know the finger or ring circumference, you can calculate the approximate inner diameter as follows:

Inner diameter = Ring circumference × 0.318

Example:
Inner diameter: 17.2 mm
17.2 × 3.14 ≈ 54 mm
This corresponds approximately to the German ring size 54.

Resizing a ring at a later date is also generally possible for many rings. However, whether and to what extent a ring can be resized depends on its construction, the material, and, in particular, the stone setting.

For ring bands that are fully or almost fully set with gemstones, subsequent resizing may be technically limited.
